I have a 5400 rpm drive (6 gb) and a 7200 rpm drive (80gb). I heard somewhere (probably this site) that it is beneficial (for speed) to have two physically different drives, one for os & programs, the other for video data. Does this speed advantage still exist if the os & programs are on a 5400 rpm drive, or does it make more sense to partition the 7200 rpm drive?
It would be most beneficial to have 2 7200 RPM drives, but if this is not an option I think it would be best to have windows on your 5400 rpm hard drive and use your 7200 for your video files. Just make sure your hard drives are on seperate IDE and that they are both set to master. THis should work fine. Happy editing!
