I have a question about the MovieBox DV that I hope someone here can answer. I'd like to take VHS tapes, as well as other analog sources, and convert them over to DVD compliant MPEG files, import them into Ulead DVD Movie Factory or capture to Studio 8 so I can create menus for my clips, and then send the results to my Sony DVD burner.
My question: Does the MovieBox DV handle the MPEG rendering via a hardware encoder or would this be done by software?
My main concern is the time it would take to generate the 720x480 video files and the quality of the results.
If you want to convert directly to Mpeg, you would be better off buying one of the hardware encoders. Pinnacle Systems, Adaptec, ADC Tech, Dazzle, Canopus and Snazzi all make them. The Snazzi and Adaptec encoders use the same chipset that is in the Tivo 2.
