DVD-ROM Read Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check
on Nov 11, 2004 at 7:12:43 am

Hi

I have “Memorex DVD +/- RW True 8Xn” drive. I am using Nero 6 Ultra software, and I burn DVD’s mainly for a backup purposes. Drive is connected as a slave (master is my CD-RW drive). I am using WinXP, 2GHz CPU, 256Mb RAM.
A few months ago, I burned my docs and other stuff I’ve been collecting for years. I used TDK DVD+R media 4x. Memorex could burn it 6x in Nero, but I’ve decided to do it 4x since it is decelerated speed of that particular blank media. Everything was fine, burn process has been completed successfully, no erros….. But 2 months later, the same DVD drive CAN’T read burned DVD media. Actually, some folders I can still copy to a hard drive, but some of them I can’t (frozen Windows). I’ve tried to use DOS, but without success. DVD’s are been stored in a dark place and in the cases (they are not scratched or affected by the sun light). The only thing that looks suspicious to me is that I used regular CDDVD labels (bad reflection???). Check this out: I tried the same DVD in my friend’s computer (Mac) and it works GREAT, like a Swiss watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it really true that is the best to burn DVD’s 1X or 2X? One more question: what is DVD-ROM (UDF)? Is there a catch how to burn DVD-ROM in Nero?
This all looks weird to me, so I would appreciate if anyone has a solution or some tips.
Thanks.

Hi there again

I just got a new message for the same problem:
Cyclic Redundancy Check.
So DVD is LIKE NEW, no scratches, and it works fine on my friend’s computer.
Is this a hardware issue?

Yes, it's a hardware problem. Never put a peel'n stick label on a DVD. Even if it works at first, eventually it will cause enough imbalance to render it unplayable.
