Zone Considerations when Burning DVD's
on Jul 27, 2003 at 11:15:35 pm

- Does a dvd burner/recorder, record on a dvd with a specific zone number limitation, that is, zone 1, etc.? Or will the recording be zone independent, such that I can view it in a DVD player regardless of its zone designation?

My situation is the following: I live in Panama (zone 4), but want to buy a DVD recorder in the USA. Will I be able to view the recordings I make on the dvd recorder on a dvd zone 4 player, or on a dvd player of any zone designation for that matter?

The burner itself doesn't do any region encoding, that can only be done with the dvd authoring application. On the PC side of things, you have to spend a lot of money to get access to that feature. Most consumer and prosumer authoring applications don't put any code on, so your disc should be viewable anywhere.
