I am looking for a Computer System right now to run Avid Xpress and Xpress pro when it comes out, and I need to burn DVD's. Here's the problem, What do I choose! Every expert I have talked to has said use the Sony +/- Burner, some say the Pioneer is better. Plextor is a good brand, but I haven't heard good things yet.
I want a Quailty built System, made for editng and the best ones I have fornd so far are at Alienware ( http://www.alienware.com ) Uber Gear ( http://www.uber-gear.com ) and Dell (who doesn't know that one) Dell is so much cheeper, but I can only get the Sony at Uber Gear, and they look amazing, but I have never heard of them, Does anyone know if they are as good as Alienware? What about Dell? Can I expect the same type of quality ?
Sorry I am a pro editor not a a computer guru so any help would be appreciated :-)
There are a lot of DVD Burners on the market these days, and a lot of people are talking about whats the best and the cheapest.
When chosing a dvd burner, you need to think about what your are going to be doing with the dvd's once they are burned.
Sending them to your friends, relatives, etc. you say you are a Pro editor, so I would think that you are referring to burning high quality dvd for sell to whomever.
If you are going to sell to whomever, you will probably be having the final disc replicated for mass production, if this is the case then the Pioneer A05 would be perfect, but if you need something that has all formats for compatibility or personal reasons, then you might want one that uses all media formats.
Just ask yourself, What am I going to do with the dvd when I finish it? and that should give you your answer.
I try not to buy something because it has all the features a person could want, I buy a product that will do what I need it to do.
I have made many dvds, I use the DVD-RW for testing dvds, I use the DVD-R for one offs and test disk to send to clients and also to the replication facility or to have the dvd-r converted to DLT for the replicators.
