What is the difference between Vegas 4 as an NLE solution and others such as Matrox RTX.100? How does one capture analog video without a capture card?
I suppose with a digital video camera or other digital imaging source that the dv can be uploaded directly, without a capture card, through a USB or Firewire connection. Is the capture card only necessary for capture and conversion of analog video? Does a capture card serve other intrinsic functions for NLE with embedded or bundled software?
Could Vegas 4 be usefully combined with a capture card such as the RTX.10 or RTX.100? That is, would they complement each other or would they detract from each other? Or is it "Apples & Oranges"?
Vegas4 is a very cool program. it is software only. You use a simple/cheap OHCI card to get teh DV video in and out. If you need analog, you can get a converter box like the Canopus ADVC100.
The RTX10/100 are Adobe Premiere based systems. With the addition of these hardware cards, Premiere becomes a much more powerful and useful program.
If you've got a fast machine like a P4 with 512+ megs of RAM you will love either choice. It's all a amtter of what features are really most important to you. othing comes close tot he 3D transitions, filters and FX of the MAtrox RTX.100
Vegas offers outstanding audio tools, a very elegant interface and simple to use Powerful video layering tools.
