Which is best burner: A03/A04/A05 or other?

I need to buy an external DVD burner soon.
I've heard that the A03/A04 Pioneers are the reliable workhorses that most pro's are using.

As I understand it, The A03/A04 usually gets bundled with myDVD. If I start out with myDVD or Dazzle DVD Complete and then graduate to more sophisticated software like DVDit or Ulead MediaSudio Pro, which of the above burners will produce the most compatable DVD-R's?

Should I wait for the A05, which is due for release this month?

My system:
PC/PIII/256MB RAM/20GB 7200RPM/40GB 7200RPM/
Pinnacle DV500+
Premiere 6.0

Thanks,
Dave Fickas

The Ao4 is a proven work horse and for $299.95 it's a great deal.

As for authoring, have you tried upgrading to Impressions DVD Pro 2.2?? Nice features and they've really improved the burning. Upgrade is only $199.95.

Is the A03/A04 available as either an external or internal unit?
I'd prefer an external one.

Thanks,
Dave

it's internal. but you can get the ADS firewire drive kit to make it an external drive. all you need is an ohci compatible firewire card to make it work. you can read more about the drive kit at http://www.videoguys.com/ADS_drivekit.htm

Video Guy,

What does ohci mean?

My capture card is a Pinnacle DV500+. Is it compatable with an external A04/104 like the LaCie?

Thanks,
Dave

OHCI is the term uses for the generic firewire cards that use the drivers that come with Windows (or your Mac). The DV500+ does not currently support OHCI, it uses it's own special device drivers. You can put in a cheap OHCI card like the Pyro, and run the AO4 in a firewire enclosure.

Does anyone know if an older Fast DV Master Card is OHCI Compliant?
