Decoder in DVDit Help Please
on Jul 19, 2002 at 3:27:47 am

Hello everyone,
before I format my pc, DVDit worked fine.
After I format and install everything (premiere, title, effect fx, dvdit,... )
Now when I import mpeg 2 files into dvdit, I have a message:

"DVDit! Could not find a suitable decoder for 'd:video.mpg' Please ensure that you have a valid decoder installed"

Could anyone tell me what I have to install to get DVDit! work ?
Thank you
NG

I assume you're trying to import m2v and mp2 files. DVDit is supposed to handle them, but sometimes has problems with it.

Rename the files: m2v --> mpv, mp2 --> mpa

Then they should import fine.

Hi,
thank you for replying.
I have file.mpeg which encoded (using hardware encoder, working perfectly before I format my computer, and now it still working very well with Dvd workshop ) but has that problem with dvdit!
I tried to rename as you recommended but still not working .
Once again thanks.

I usually transcode separate video and audio files. Ligos creates two files, m2v (video) and mp2 (audio). While you can use mpeg files, which interleave the audio and video, the first thing DVDit has to do while creating your DVD image is de-interlace them into 2 separate files. The DVD authoring just takes longer, if you imput a single mpeg file containing both video and audio.

If the file extension is mpeg, you might try changing it to mpg and see if DVDit will accept it.

Can you play the mpeg file in something else, like Windows Media Player? If you can't, you're missing the mpeg2 codecs. Then you'd need to upgrade your copy of Media Player and add the missing codecs.
