Dropping frames with GeForce3....HELP!
on Jan 20, 2003 at 8:28:51 pm

Hi all!
Newbie here....:)

What is wrong with my capturing when I get frames dropped on regular basis (about 2 frames dropped /second)...?
Been trying capturing with Premiere6, TVtools and virtual dub...The same result with each one of them.
Otherwise capturing is ok. (Analog from VHS and DVD)

I got:

WinXP pro
256Mb memory
80gb HD 7200rpm (WinXP on C: D&E for capturing)
40gb HD (tried to capture to this HD too, no difference)
GeForce3 (Asus V8200) Tv-in/out
AthlonXP1700

PLZ help!
J

OK.Found out what was wrong.... VIA 4in1 drivers!

Updated 'em with the newest (HYPERION 4in1) and NO dropped frames anymore. :)

I strongly recommend Windows 2000 Pro. Everything seems fine.

I was never a fan of GeForce video capturing.

XP is not your problem.

What are your capture settings? If you are capturing Mpeg 2, try lowering both the audio and video data rate. I was never able to get acceptable quality Mpeg using the ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro except by lowering the video data rate to about 4000Mbits/sec. Even then, I tended to lose AV sync.

If you are capturing AVI, what is the codec? ATI's AVI codec's in Windows 2000/XP have huge data rates that overwhelmed my drives.
