I want to dump a bunch of raw footage onto DVDs for storage but then how do I get it back into an editing program for later use? Premiere Pro, Pinacle etc won't import VOB. Studio9 wont even import the avi files that I captured from the camera in Premiere.
i don't know of any program that will edit a .vob file. your best bet is to forget about using DVD for archiving. go back out to DV Tape and recapture the video through the firewire port or just get a really big hard drive, they're pretty cheap these days.
Ulead's Video Studio 8, DVD Movie Factory 2/3, and DVD Workshop can all import .vob files and convert them losslessly to mpeg 2. However, video clips often get divided into separate .vob files and, if you recombine them in Ulead's products, there can be pixelizatioin or jerkiness at the point where the two clips are recombined. I wouldn't recommend it except as a last resort.
I understand that MyDVD can do this too now, but I do not know how well it works.
