I have a library of Hi-8 analog tapes that I'd like to edit on my PC. I have been lead to believe that a digital Hi-8 camcorder will read my analog tapes and will provide a digital output via firewire to the PC. Can someone confirm that? Thanx.
How does the quality compare doing it that way compared to letting an analoge capture device do the work (from a non-firewire camcorder)?
Dell 8250 WinXP Pro
P4 2.53ghz 533mhz FSB
512mg 1066mhz RDRAM
120gig 7200rpm WD system drive
160gig 7200rpm WD video drive
128mg ATI Radeon 9700 dual head w/TV out
Video Capture/Software (working on it)
Since you're using the mpeg encoder chip in the camcorder, the quality is about as good as it gets. Granted that 8mm and Hi8 don't have resolution quite as good as DV, so it still won't look as sharp as original DV.
