Video Editing Software - Still Images
on Aug 26, 2004 at 5:42:50 pm

Please help me...I'm overwhelmed with all of the video
editing software out there and can't decide what to get.
I am a photographer looking for a way to produce very
nice photo montage slide shows. Something beyond your
ordinary transition slide shows. I want to do something
similar to an online company called Retrospect Video Albums..
there video albums are awesome but I can't figure out
what they are using to create them. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, those credit samples do appear to created in a motion graphics program. I know someone with more talent and patience than I have could do it in Cool 3D Production Studio.

Vegas 5.0 + DVD, buy it with the training videos. The training videos will have you up and running in no time. I bought it in January and make professional looking videos, with still images, but only as a hobby. At a Wedding this past weekend I met a gentleman who owns a business doing exactly what you want and he also uses Vegas. He is from New York city, and gets $1000 to $2000 per 15 to 20 minute project.
He said he has tried many other types of software but prefers Vegas. He alo produces corporate motivational and training videos.

A demo version is a free download at

Learn to pan and scan on the photographs, that is what brings them to life.

You can do it with Liquid Edition. You can bring in photos at at full resolution and pan and scan at any speed or vary the speed, over a thousand transitions each one you can change or vary to your every desire. Everything can be done with most mid-range packages, but be ready to spend a lot of time to make each effect the way you want it no matter which product you buy. One can spend as much as 15 minutes per photo getting just the right effect, the right scan, the right pan, the right color hue, the right fade, the right transition and then get the right time to match the music rhythm. Liquid Edition allows one full control, but their is not any "wizards or pre-packaged" slide shows.... you have to use your own creativity. der
