I installed the Premiere Pro 1.5 trial last night and tried to import some ~500mb video clips I captured using Ulead MS 7.0 through my firewire port. During the import Premiere has to "convert" non-Premiere captured video clips for some reason. Every time, during the conversion process the progress bar would reach 100% in about 20 seconds then Premiere would lock up and go into a compute bound state, never completing the clip import. I left an import running overnight just to see if it was just really slow, and the import was still chugging along this morning.
Premiere is one of the NLE's I'm looking at because I have experience with a previous version and can upgrade for $199. However, if this is any indication of how it will work, I mine as well throw the $199 away.
Any ideas on what can be going wrong?
My system is a Dell 8400, hyper thread 3.0Ghz with 1GB DDR2 memory and 160Gb SATA 7200rpm drive and an ATI Radeon X300 128MB PCI Express video card with a Dual layer 8x DVD writer.
