Avid is 'flickering'.... common problem?
on Jan 6, 2004 at 10:26:32 pm

Hey guys,

Landed on this nice forum (bookmarked it) with one BIG question: I am running Avid xpress dv 3.5 for windows XP. Well, not exactly RUNNING. I just installed it, but first it is 'flickering'(blinking) all the time and after that the program just crashes. "ACCES violation exception occurred"

Well, someone told me that one of the windows hotfixes is the problem... but i have so many! He did not remember which one, but remembered 1441 or 1414 or 4141 or... Does anybody know what I can do to make avid WORK? I am quite desperate (as you may have noticed).

Thanks.Sad

1) Check out our winxp tweaks page http://www.videoguys.com/WinXP.html

2) DO NOT install WinXP hotfix KB824141. If you have installed it, you can remove it by going to Control Panel... Add/Remove Programs... and clicking on Windows XP Hotfix - KB824141. Be sure to reboot after removing this.

3) Make sure you are running the latest vendor drivers for your graphics card, storage controller card (if you have one) and any Motherboard bios/ patches

4) Check out our Avid Xpress tips page http://www.videoguys.com/XDVtips.html

In addition to those great links posted above, note that we advise folks to simply turn off automatic updates. There's no way that anybody can possibly engineer a product to work with every patch that's going to come out. This is just an example of the kinds of problems that can easily be avoided.

I have to also suggest that anybody using Xpress DV 3.5 needs to take a look at Avid Xpress Pro. It's a very reasonably priced upgrade to Xpress DV 3.5 that offers an amazing amount of power. The first time that you see Avid's expert color correct automatically analyze and correct every clip in your sequence in a single pass, it'll take your breath away. Plenty of other good stuff too. Check http://www.videoguys.com/XpressPro.html for details.

Oh yeah, and keep OS updates turned off for Xpress Pro too. Smile

Best,
