Vegas Video 4, Canopus Storm2 or Matrox RTx100?
on Apr 7, 2003 at 2:55:50 pm

Hi,
I'm in the process of building my own editing workstation with the
following:

Asus P4T533C Socket 478 Motherboard w/Intel P4 3.06Ghz 512 Cache, 533 FSB Processor

1 GB PC2700 DDR 333 Mhz Memory

WD Caviar SE 180GB EIDE HD / 7200 / 8MB / 8.9 / ATA-100 Video Drive

WD Caviar 80GB EIDE HD 7200 / 8MB / 8.9 / ATA-100 System Drive

WD 120GB EIDE / 7200 RPM / 8MB / 8.9ms / ATA-100 / Export Drive

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 PCI Sound Card

Sony DRU-500AX Internal DVD Burner

I am now trying to figure out what editing platform to use. My OS will be Windows XP Pro. I've read comparison charts on Canopus, Matrox and Vegas Video. Now I want your opinion. I'm producing features with Canon's XL1s and want a program that will get the job done in editing with the system I am building. I've used Pinnacle's DV500Plus and even upgraded to their Edition but I am dis-satisfied with its performance and limitations. It could be the system I'm using now, but I feel that the other programs are much better anyway from the comparisons. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I guess we'll have to wait until the end of May to actually get our hands on the new Xtreme drivers, but it sound to me like Matrox has beat Canopus on their layering capability.

Read Charlie White's snipit at NAB Day 3.
