Avid Xpress Pro HD news
At DV Expo earlier this month Avid announced Xpress Pro HD.($1695 MSRP) In addition to support for HD and their new DNxHD codec, Pro HD adds some very cool features:
- native DVCPRO HD editing; real-time multicamera editing; 10-bit playback, editing, and effects; direct ingest of DVCPRO 50 media; even more film and 24p tools; advanced AVX2 plug-in architecture; and more
- Real-time, 'on-the-fly' multicamera editing. One-Touch and Natural Match automatic color correction. Image stabilization with auto-zoom. Pan and zoom of oversized stills. Script-based editing. Real-time animated alpha channels. AVX 2 plug-in architecture for deep colorspace and advanced keyframing for both native Avid and third-party plug-in effects. MetaSync for advanced metadata management right on the timeline.
- Marquee titleing tool. This is the same powerful title and graphic animation tool used in much higher end Avid systems.
Owners of Xpress Pro 4.x will be able to upgrade to Pro HD for $50 directly from Avid. Native HDV support will become available in the spring, and all Pro HD owners will get HDV as a free upgrade.
Note: XPress Pro HD is initially PC only, for WinXP. Avid is working on Mac, but they are not getting the support and information they need to make it run 100% on Mac. So Mac guys are going to have to wait, or switch to PC.
