Need for realtime render cards ?
on Feb 3, 2004 at 7:56:20 pm

As the casual home videographer, do I really need a realtime card for anything other than conveinence?

I guess the option is to sit and wait while the software renders...I'm using PremierePro, Athlon2100+, 1 GB RAM

Thanks for some direction, I really need some justification....but I think I really want one.......

My Matrox RT.X100 gives me realtime color correction, which lets me easily match video from multiple cameras. No rendering required.

Most special effects, like picture-in-picture, are also realtime. Apply the effect and hit play. It's ready for export without rendering.

I also get realtime transcoding for DVD authoring. Here again, no rendering before exporting.
