four video inputs/ Pinnacle software
on Aug 25, 2003 at 4:42:37 pm

Hello all-

We need a capture card and software combination to accomplish the following:

Simultaneous input and real-time recording of four indepdendent video sources and two stereo audio sources into a comprehensive video editing and DV authoring software program.

Some specifications on the video sources:

two webcams or survellance type cameras with a minimum size of 620 x480
one firewire video camera
one composite or S video

Our goal is to get all to get all four video and all four audio sources into eight individual tracks of the video/audio editing program wihout having to sync video and audio at a later time. We want to be able to pick and choose from any of the sources for our final edit.

It seems that Pinnacle has something that is very close to what we want (Pinnacle Movie Box USB 2 Video Transfer Device) but it does not seem to have enough inputs, and it does not specify on the website whether the inputs it has are able to be run simultaneously into Studio 8.

Can Studio 8 even allow for eight simultaneous inputs to be recorded /edited onto eight individual tracks?

We are planning on using a 2.6 ghz machine- we are hoping this would be enough to handle these 8 inputs.

Any thoughts/feedback greatly appreciated.

The Video Toaster 3 may be your best bet.

You might also want to check out the DVSTORM2 with the multicam software.
