Ninja Blade / Digital file naming

Hi,

Long-time reader, first time poster here.

Can I ask everyone - with your digital files from a hard disk recorder - do you re-name your rushes files, so that you have totally unique file names for all your footage across different projects, or do you keep the standard file naming conventions and are happy with just keeping them in named folders?

What I'm trying to say, is that each shoot produces files with the same names 'Assassin_Shotnumber_Startsfrom001' - I'm interested to know if you all rename these files?

Thanks!

If I were you, I would take advantage of the fact that you can set a naming scheme in the Ninja Blade. That way they are unique. Whenever I shoot with a recorder I do this. It is frustrating when shooting to a codec that defaults to 0000.mp4 (or something similar), however we get around this by either transcoding to ProRes with a new file name, or just making sure that we give the folder the media sits in a unique name. The unique name can be achieved by starting with the date (170116, would represent January 16, 2017).
