Record external AV source directly to mpeg2 file

Hi - I'd like to ingest some old video tapes and save them as mpg2 files.

Is there a way of recording straight to mpeg, without having to go through a rendering process?

The PC is equipped with a Firewire card and I have a Canopus55 to feed it with.

Any suggestions very welcome.

Thanks - Martin

I think the easiest way to do this is to get the Sorenson Squeeze software and set up a watch folder that will take the video captured through the firewire to a folder and will then automatically encode to MPEG2
