Settings to create a high quality file from a DVD
on Oct 11, 2013 at 9:24:56 pm

I have a DVD disc containing VOB files. I want to import this DVD to Final Cut Pro X so to do some editing to the original content. By using the MPEG Streamclip I found that the DVD I have has the following specs:

Stream: VTS_01_1.VOB
Path: /Volumes/PRJ_20101116_002/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB
Type: VOB program stream

Duration: 2:32:42
Data Size: 2.71 GB
Bit Rate: 2.54 Mbps

Video Tracks: 224 MPEG-2, 720 × 576, 4:3, 25 fps, 2.50 Mbps, lower field first

Audio Tracks: 192 MP2 stereo, 48 kHz, 224 kbps

Stream Files:
VTS_01_1.VOB (976.68 MB)
VTS_01_2.VOB (976.68 MB)
VTS_01_3.VOB (822.04 MB)

What settings do I have to use so to get all the media out of the DVD and import them to FCPX with the best possible results ?

Final Video is for You-Tube.

For importing Nero Vision/Video can be used. Under the DVD creation menu, in the window where files are inserted into the project, you can import a disc. The imported video from the disc is saved in nero vision folder in my documents. You don't have to worry about the settings when importing a video using nero because it copies all the vob files as is and merges them creating a single mpeg file. The quality is great. However you might have to convert the imported mpeg because some programs don't support mpeg video editing.
