I'm a "software hacker" and "hardware maker" and I've recently been building a Creative Commons licensed pocket dolly / camera slider. My intent is to give it to the videographer community as either a well-developed DIY slider, or something that can be built to order when the time comes for that. In any case, it's all open hardware (specs and everything can be copied). Some of its parts are built with a 3D printer (it's really neat to design hardware as 3D model files and then have them become real), and the control software is also open source.
I'm curious if there are any early adopters out there who would like to give it a go? It's definitely early stage stuff, so you have to set your expectations to the "let's build this together" mindset, but it's getting closer to a very affordable end product that will put the short-run dolly shots within reach of amateur and entry-level professional photographers.
