A good Zoom or HD: What is more important while buying a camcorder?
on Aug 15, 2011 at 11:05:14 am

Hi everyone,
I am planning to shoot a small documentary and edit it in either Apple Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere .
But with my limited budget I can only afford to buy a Standard and not HD camcorder with a good zoom (60x/2000x) or a Full HD digital camera with 4xoptical zoom.
What should I go with?
I have chosen following models:-
DCR-SX45E : Flash / Memory Stick : Handycam® Video Camera : Sony India
or
Digital IXUS 115 HS - Canon India - personal
What should I compromise on HD or Zoom?I would be very thankful for any help.

With kind regards,
Sumeet.

I would urge you to go with HD at this point. You could end up severely limiting the distribution opportunities of your documentary by only going DV.

Have you looked into renting gear? Or picking up a used HD camcorder?
