New Dell Machine
on Feb 8, 2011 at 12:35:46 am

Working on the Dell site...have the following picked out. Wondering if I'm missing something......am worried that the Dell folks are not experts with video editing. This is for my school using Adobe cs5 production. Any thoughts would be helpful. A lot of money...it will be the last investment for the school for some time to come. Thanks

You'll want the resource cd. It contains the drivers for the hardware, which you'd need for reinstallation and is a bootable diagnostic disc to test the computer hardware.

severa things in that config i would not do

1) Quadro complete waste of money
2) 10k drives same thing..
3) Xeon? a 980x is the exact same processor
4)ECC ram? pointless and will slow you down 1600 would be better than 1333
5) are you doing AVCHD?

look elsewhere, you can find a system for less from companies who actually support video. Dell is cheap for consumer systems but when you start buying the Xeon workstation lines they are more than most other than HP

Either build your own computer (and have a teenager help you with that)
or
purchase a turn key system (often found in one of the trade rags.)
