ASUS P6X58D, i7 930 FX 1800 and elemental software?
on Feb 3, 2010 at 5:16:02 am

I'm building a new editing computer following the DIY7.7 configuration. I am substituting the ASUS P6X58D for the P6T Deluxe v2. The P6X58D is supposed to be more future proof. It has USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB ports and is only $10 more.

Has anyone tried the P6X58D?

I am waiting for the i7 930 CPU to be released at the end of February. It is only slightly faster than the i7 920 2.66 vs 2.8, but I am hoping the i7 920 will be much cheaper. If it isn't, I will be getting the i7 930.

I will be upgrading my quadro FX 580 to a FX 1800. Elemental software is supposed to make Premiere Pro CS4 20% faster by using the graphics board to do the rendering. It is bundled with the FX 1800 for $150 more. I thought Premiere already is using the Nvidia board for processing. I read one consumer review that it made their computer really buggy and it didn't do the edits properly.

Has anybody tried the elemental software?

HI,
do not waste your money an a Quadro anything buy the nvidia 285 which is far faster than a Quadro especially that one.

2) CS5 will have the Mercury engine which will ofload to the GPU.
the 1800 will NOT be supported, the 285 will be or Quadro 3800 and higher.

and yes CS4 does already use the GPU for some things
