What can I really get on a budget??
on Sep 24, 2008 at 1:23:43 am

I am on a tight budget about $1200-$1500.

I am producing special interest videos. I do not use any special FX software, only Adobe Premiere elements...again I'm on a budget. The editing is straightforward...cuts with some transitions. When finished I want to burn to DVD for duplication. What system can I really get for less than $1500 that will accomplish my goals without too many headaches?? BTW, can I still get windows XP instead of using Vista??

Hi

Is harder to find XP on a new PC, unless you configure your own system. With 1200 you could build a good machine with a Core2 Duo. Look for the following components:

CPU E8400 (3 GHz, 1333 bus)
Intel motherboard P35 chipset or Asus P5K-E
2 GB or RAM DDR2 800 non-ECC (kingstone, crucial or corsair)
1 SATA 300 HDD 250 GB for system
1 SATA 300 HDD +500 GB for capture
1 SATA DVD-burner
nVidia GeForce 9600 512 MB (any brand, just avoid overclocked versions or those with turbocache)
600w power supply.
And a big case, an antec o thermaltake would work.
XP pro OEM.

ANd that's it. Feel free to ask.
