Asus P5K3 Raid Configuration
on May 13, 2008 at 12:25:02 am

Rolling Eyes In the diy6 build up, it says that you used the windows raid configuration. Do you still use the bios configuration, and set them to sata or leave alone. Also is there a place that gives the exact steps to the xp pro raid process. Thanks

If you setup the RAID in Windows then you would leave the BIOS setting to IDE.

There might be a utility to do this, so if anybody knows of one, please post! Other than that, here is the manual way from Tom's Hardware.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/windowsxp-make-raid-5-happen,925.html

They are doing this in XP using RAID 5. They show you how to enable RAID 5 in XP by hacking some system DLLs. Don't do this for RAID 0 or RAID 1. Read the article but skip the DLL hack.

In a nutshell:
Install XP on your first disk an get it up an running. Install the other 2 disks, run the Disk Management Utility and convert the new disks to Dynamic. Right click either of the dynamic disks and choose New Volume. You should get a choice for Simple, Spanned, Striped and Mirrored. Striped is RAID 0 (fast, no safety) and Mirrored is RAID 1.

Good Luck!
