Capture Card recomandations if you would be so kind :-)
on Feb 27, 2008 at 9:59:25 pm

Greetings,

I'm in a situation where i need to go through some 90 VHS 45 minutes tapes and capture relevant footage for a retrospektive movie. My quess is to use a capture card. As I need to do editing with Liquid Edition or Premiere after the capture, it is my suggestion to capture the footage in the dv format (Scene001.avi) rather than Scene001.mpg. This is to get the hifhest possible quality. As the most card seems to capture in mpeg my question is: Am I right to go for a capture resulting in an avi-file or is the quality issue not present at mpegs could be used with same or similar result ?
For vhs footage in medium/low quality - what kind of capture card/box should I aim at ?
I do want som nice pictures and audio that is in sync, but i guess the the quality of the vhs fottage is th elimit and want to get just the right box quality and monet vise.

Kind regards and thanks
Lasse/Denmark

You are right. AVI DV files have better quality than mpeg files (though mpeg2 streams can be quite good depending on compression).

This might be what u need, and it is compatible with both premiere and liquid

Good luck
