Image Stabilization Software

I'd like to smooth out the shakes in helmet camera footage. There are image stabilization/deshaker software products on the web, but details about quality or suitability for use on helmet camera footage (which is probably hard to stabilize) aren't available.

It may be better to batch process the files before editing than to apply deshaking as a filter because I use Sony Vegas which doesn't have the wide variety of plugins available for other editors.

The input format is uncompessed .avi captured from a Sony PC-1000 camcorder. It would be nice if DivX MPEG4 were also supported as input, but I could convert those to something more standard.

Does anyone have any experience in this area?

Adobe After Effects (AE) has image stabilization. It is pretty easy to use and you could render to pretty much any format and then use that in Vegas.

If you already own it then that would be great. If you don't own it I would highly recommend it because you can do so much with it.
