rtx.100/rtx.10 & Firewire devices
on Jul 30, 2002 at 12:46:58 am

I'm trying to find out if these cards are compatible with Sony D8 cameras (my old one is the TRV-310). The RT 2500 supported them, but apparently the rtx cards use Microsoft firewire drivers instead of the TI drivers the RT 2500 used and they have to retest all the devices.

Does anyone know if the rtx cards support Sony D8 cams? Is there much of a risk that they will NOT be compatible? I just want to be able to use rtx's "single pass" capture features.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

(also - anyone heard when the rtx.10 is going to be available?)

These cars use the new Micropsoft Direct X drivers. These drivers support all the firewire devices that the older RT2500 supported and many others. The new device control is more accurate as well.

RTX.10 will be in stock later this week $599.95

I sure hope you're correct about what you've claimed, but I, unfortunately, have reason to believe otherwise.

On Matrox's website, under the DV-1394 compatibility page:
http://matrox.com/video/support/rtx100/rec/1394/home.cfm
they list the tested devices. Although many devices haven't yet been tested, it turns out that some of the devices that have been tested and are fully compatible with the Matrox RT2500 ARE NOT fully compatible with the Matrox RT.X100. This leads me to believe that I shouldn't assume any given camera is compatible with the RT.X100.

I even called Matrox and they told me that the best thing to do would be to try to actually test the specific camera with the X100.

If you know otherwise, please let me know, because I too am ready to purchase a X100 the moment I learn that my camera (a JVR GR-DVL9800U) will work with this new system.

I have my X100 working with both my Sony DRV-103 and DRV-230 Digital8 camcorders.
