CONVERTING HIGH DEFINITION MATERIAL TO STANDARD
on Oct 3, 2007 at 10:29:51 am

Hi,

I am using HD but there arte times when I could do with using this as source materail in standard definition projects. As yet I have not found a computer based solution for conversion to SD from HD. I use Premiere - but it crops the HD material in a standard project, which I think may be a bug issue. This has not been answered by Adobe.

Does anyone know of a way of working round this? I can use the camnera to convert, but this is not always ideal.

I use CinemaCraft Basic to downsample my HDV in Premiere Pro 2.0 for DVD authoring. I found having it deinterlace produced the best video. You can download a free trial.

In Premiere, capture your HDV footage and then import it in a SD wide-screen project. Now resize it to fit the frame edit and save it as a AVI. I would recommend applying a sharpening effect of about 30%.
