I am an amatuer video enthusiast. I have a very capable machine for Standard (Mini DV) editing with AVID Liquid 7. My DV Cam is getting old. I am lloking at options for a new camera. I will never be in the "business of editing" it's purely for fun, however I would like to significantly improve the quality of my videos. I've been looking at going to 3CCD for a long time, but now with HD falling in price I am wondering if I should pay the few extra bucks for a HD camera. I don't think my system is ready for HD editing, but it would be nice simply to plug in a hD recording and watch it on our HD set. Here are my questions:
1) Do most of the new HD cams downconvert to SD?
2) How is the quality of downconverted material? Is it as good as a standard DV (3 ccd recording)
3) Is a non hd 3ccd camera going to make a noticable difference in my edited videos vs a 6 year old consumer grade Mini DV cam?
4) If I go for an HD camera, should I opt for one that is CMOS or 3CCD?
