Building a 4 drive Raid 0 or just buy cineform Aspect HD?
on Jun 28, 2007 at 4:24:10 pm

Can anyone with experience help me...

I am considering buying a LSI RAID controller card with 8 SATA-II ports. With this i would make a 4 disk Raid 0 array out of 4 500g Western digital SE16 disks. I would hope to achieve over 200mb/s read and write rates...

The controller card i have not yet decided on which brand, model, but it needs to be PCI-X 133mhz, because both my PCI-Express slots are occupied, one with GPU and the other with Blackmagic intensity.

The blackmagic intensity as of now performs - kind of slow. It can only seem to play for about 5 seconds and then freezes, in 1080i. I asume this is due to my storage speed. I have a 2 disk Raid 0 which gets 120mb/s read / write rate.

So I am considering upgrading my current RAID to a larger 4 disk array - OR - maybe i should save money and just buy Cineform Aspect HD?
I wonder if this would help me work in 1080i with my current setup and black magic intensity?
