nVidia GF-8600GTS vs. ATI Radeon X1950PRO 512MB?
on May 29, 2007 at 9:25:50 pm

hello

i am buying a pc, roughly equal to the "best" system recommended on the dys guide (http://www.videoguys.com/DIY5updateNAB07.html)

BUT the system available has an nvidia gf-8600 card, not an x1950pro.

could anyone pls tell me if the nvidia be good for video editing?

i do not expect to do much 3-d/ effects, but i do want to mix lots of video and images- thus i want a good system.

the one available to me has an asus p5b board instead of a p5w board and i will use premiere pro. any help would be appreciated!

thanks
alx

I'm an ATI fan but for the last editing machine I configured chose the Nvidia 8800 just because i'm a heavy AFX user (I know a quadro would be far better but budget was an issue).

Based your choice on the tools/capture card u are going to use. There's a DYI article on video cards u should find it pretty useful.

Here's a quick list but i recomend to read the full article.

Matrox: ATI
Adobe: Nvidia
Avid Liquid: ATI (I dont like liquid by the way)
Canopus: both
Avid Xpress: ATI
Vegas: it uses the CPU, GPU don't really makes a difference

U mentioned u want to use premiere, if u are going to use a 1394 card with no other video capture hardware go for Nvidia, BUT if u plan to add a Matrox card go for ATI.
