Just got a Canon XH A1, my first video camera, with the intention of shooting an HDV documentary. What do I need to be able to edit in 4:2:2 uncompressed?
I am familiar with film but brand new to video and all the talk of compression has me concerned that I will be losing something if I edit in anything other than uncompressed. I intend to shoot to tape.
My project is interview heavy so sound is important. So far in my tests with the camera and a Rode NTG2 mic the raw sound sounds good on playback from the camera to my tv. Will compression also affect the quality of the sound recording?
