HDV seminars/panels at HDFEST Los Angeles
on Nov 18, 2006 at 10:31:46 pm

HDFEST Los Angeles event will be taking place in just 2 weeks at the Dolby Laboratories facility in Burbank http://www.hdfest.com

In addition to screening HD films, HDFEST also will be presenting some panels and seminars on HD... and also new panels on HDV filmmaking.

Since HDV was introduced a few years ago, HDFEST has had lots of questions about whether or not its a useful (or quality) medium for filmmaking. These upcoming panels at HDFEST Los Angeles should truly help answer these questions .

Though HDFEST has been presenting panels and seminars on HD since 2000, this is the first year the festival will also offer panels on HDV filmmaking.

The LA event will include two panel discussions on HDV filmmaking: "Achieving Great Results with HDV: An Inside Look at Mojave Phone Booth" presented by John Putch and Keith Duggan on Saturday Dec 2nd, and "Surviving the Low End of HD: Issues and Solutions for HDV" moderated by Larry Jordan on Sunday December 3rd.

Larry Jordan is one of the world's experts on editing- and his courses are usually at least a few hundred dollars. The 1 1/2 hour seminar at HDFEST is only $15! You can read more about his training at http://http://www.larryjordan.biz Tickets for this are available online at HDFEST's website http://www.hdfest.com/hdfestla_sunday.html

Description of presentation "Surviving the Low End of HD: Issues and Solutions for HDV" : HDV has captured the attention both the independent film-maker and the video professional looking to make an inexpensive jump into HD. However, a format that was originally designed for the hobbyist has significant problems when used at a professional level. This session will present the limitations of this video format regarding shooting, editing, effects, and distribution; provide clearly defined solutions a professional can use to workaround these issues and provide ample time for answering questions.

Description of other HDFEST LA panels are as follows:

Mojave Phone Booth is a feature film shot on HDV that will be screened at HDFEST on Friday Dec. 1st. Description of the film is here:

Saturday Dec 2nd, 2:30-3:45 John Putch will present a seminar entitled about working with HDV on his film: "Achieving Great Results with HDV: Inside The Mojave Phone Booth"

A look behind the scenes of the HDV Feature Film "Mojave Phone Booth" Director John Putch and DP Keith Duggan will take a look at their film shot on the HDV Z1U from conception to completion. Topics include camera choice, experiences on location, and post process including color correction. This panel will also include a 15 minute behind the scenes video, and a look at HDV taken out to film (a look at footage projected on 35mm).

Saturday Dec 2nd 5:30-6:30 "HD Filmmaking in Transition a Talk with HD Filmmakers." Experienced and Visionary Filmmakers who have completed films shot with High-Definition video compare and contrast experiences. This panel will also cover where HD filmmaking is going in the future, and what new tools and methods of creation and completion lie on the horizon. Also including Alan Chan who recently completed a short shot on the DALSA Origin camera.

HDFEST is an exclusively High-Definition film festival which screens films and animations created with High-Definition technology. All material is presented digitally in HD resolution with a 2K projector.
