analog capture - inconsistent quality
on Oct 25, 2006 at 10:56:08 pm

I am trying to capture analog video to Avid Liquid 7 via a PYRO A/V Link box. The video is being stored on a dedicated external 300GB drive.

Sometimes the quality of the capture is perfect. Other times, particularly with older VHS tapes, the video seems to lockup momentarily or skip. The strange thing is that when I view the tape on a TV the quality is fine.

I purchased a new VCR thinking that was the problem - nope.

I also routed the analog video through a digital DVD recorder, then to the PYRO - no improvement.

I would be forever grateful if I could get some help/advice from this forum.

Thanks

p.s. I purchased AL7 from you guys.

unfoirtunately older VHS tapes can have drop outs and other problems that result in broken timecode. This will really mess up your captures. For this we recommned the canopus ADVC300. http://www.videoguys.com/ADVC.html
