Budget Video Editing PCs
on Jul 21, 2006 at 11:54:57 pm

Hello, for my high school mass media course i am making a part list for new video editing PCs. Due to the amt of PCs needed, we are on a budget of about $1500 per PC. We will be using mainly Photoshop and Premire 2.0, and will caputre from Mini DV through video camera. Here is what I came up with:
Case: Aspire X-Plorer

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+

Mobo: Asus A8N5X

RAM: 2 Corsair Value Select 1 GB PC 3200 (2 GB total)

Power Supply: ThermalTake / TR2 W0093 / 500-Watt / ATX 2.0 / 120mm Fan / 20/24-Pin / SATA-Ready Power Supply

Hard drives: 1 Westurn Digital Caviar SE 80 GB, Two WD Caiviar SE 320 GB Drives

Graphics card: Nvidia 7600XT

DVD burner: BenQ DW1655

We hope to cash in on the fact the X2 is going to get a major price slash too. Now for some questions:

1. How does it sound?

2. What do i do by way of gfx card? We are probably going to stay Single Monitered, so if someone could suggest a good card for a budget, that would rule.

3. The case comes with a front firewire port, but the mobo has no firewire. Can someone suggest a card with ports for the back of the pc as well as an internal port to power the front mounted Firewire connection?

Thanks for all your help guys!

find a company that makes turnkey systems and gives educational discounts.

don't forget educational software pricing.
