About a year ago I purchased a Panasonic 80Gig HD DVR.
My hope was to elimate using VCR's and I wanted to be able
to record programs directly to a Hard Drive without paying
Directv or Tivo costs. I had a Sony SAT-HD100 which I didn't
know at the time was my recording problem. I couldn't record
onto the Hard Drive. I returned the Panasonic DVR and eventually
found out the the Sony SAT-HD100 was the cause. I now own a
Sony SAT-HD300 that took care of the recording feature.
I did find one feature really annoying about the Panasonic DVR
and that was the TV Guide feature that couldn''t be turned off.
Then when I searched for different manufacturer's I found that
this unwanted feature seemed to be on ALL that I looked at.
The TV Guide feature seemed to be geared toward the users of
Cable TV and I'm curious why no manufacturer's have yet figured
out theres a big market out there with Satellite users.
I have Directv and I want to basically TIME SHIFT my favorite
programs and that's it. I don't want to bother burning using
DVD's in order to do this either so the Hard Drive feature for
me is what I need.
My question is there a manufacturer out there that offers
the type of unit I'm looking for?? I would appreciate it if anyone
