Matched pair memory
on Mar 16, 2005 at 2:32:44 am

i am in the process of building a new comp and am going to get two 1GB sticks. Ran across "matched pair" modules. Just wondering what the difference is between that and standard. Thanks so much!

What type of RAM

I believe this matters most with the type of RAM you'll be using in your system. If you are going for something like RAMBUS than you HAVE to have matched pairs. Check your motherboard specs and see what they recommend. It is always advisable to use at least the same brand RAM.

Matched memory work better than unmatched both in error correction and speed.

If your motherboard supports dual channel memory, you want to put identical sticks of RAm in each of the matched slots.
