AVID - PC - project very slow. Opening and closing bins and making edits.
on Jun 27, 2017 at 11:14:49 pm

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me.

I have media composer 8.6.4 and its taking a long time to make any changes to the project. Any edits, closing/opening bins or windows, takes to the count of 10.

Its big project with a features worth of footage.
Shot in 4K Apple Pro res 23.98fps and trans-coded to DNxHD 60 (HD720p) 23.98fps

The project format is: 720p/23.976

I'm running Windows 10
i76800K 3.40GHz
64GB RAM

I'm using an internal SSD Hard drive that has 150GB free of 894GB.

I've deleted any extra bin with the AMA's in them. (I have another copy else where)
What else can I do to speed this project up?

Thank you

Devin,

Couple of things we can look at. First, try renaming the avid attic. If the file count there gets too high it can slow things down. Second, make sure the project file is on a mirrored volume as opposed to Raid5.

If those suggestions do not help, reproduce the slowness and send me the output from the Avid console. matt@facilis.com

Then we can figure out next steps.

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for responding. I've renamed the Attic folders. And that made a huge difference. Thank you.

The project is on an internal drive (Not C:) that is 1.8 TB file format NTFS. 7,200 RPM, Its not mirrored or on a raid 5.
I have it in a dropbox folder that automatically uploads any changes to the cloud.

I have several backup copy's, but didn't see the need to create a RAID.

What do you think? Should I have the project file on a faster drive? I have another SSD interal that I could put it on.
I could maybe manage a RAID, but I with take a lot of reshuffling.

Sorry, no if renaming the attic helps then you should be fine.

This popped up in our Facilis forum so I thought you were running our storage but it doesn't appear so. You can disregard the mirror/raid5 suggestion.
