Problem with Fibre Client
on Mar 14, 2012 at 7:59:51 pm

We upgraded to client machine to 10.7 and now the Facilis drives wont mount on the desktop.

2006 Mac Pro
Fibre Atto FC-81EN
Config tool 3.38
Atto Driver - 2.0 (We've tried them all)
OSX 10.7.2

The Machine worked prior to our upgrade. Any ideas?

Hi Robert,

Are you having this problem with Single-User Write volumes,Multi-User Write, or a mixture of both? Also, do you see this problem on any other Macs or is it isolated to just this system?

The problem is just with this machine. I have other fibre and ethernet clients running no problem.

The Tools volume mounts to the desktop but the actual volume wont show up.

Rob,

When you try to mount the volume in the TerraBlock Manager do you get a second copy of the Tools volume stuck on the desktop? Also, if you have Avid Media Composer installed, what is the version of Avid?

The second tools does popup on the desktop. We do have Avid installed on the computer. I think it's 5.5.

Rob,

Can you check the exact version of Media Composer? Multi-User Write volumes are not supported with Media Composer 5.5.3 for the exact reason you are seeing. If this is currently installed, upgrading to Avid Media Composer 6 should take care of the problem.

We are running 5.0.3. The drive comes up as an Ethernet client, It's just the fibre that is giving us problems.

Rob,

Version 5.0.3 of the TerraBlock or the Avid Media Composer. If TerraBlock 5.0.3, what version of Avid Media Composer is installed on that system?

The client machine is running 5.0.3 on Avid and Terrablock Manager.

The Facilis Server Box is running 5.5.1.

Rob,

If you've upgraded the server to 5.5.1 you need to be using the 5.5.1 Manager on the Mac as well. You can find the Mac Manager on the server in C:Program FilesFacilisTerraBlockManager.

Hi Greg,

We have tried that. I just reinstalled it this morning to no avail.

The Drives immediately show as mounted but they don't appear on the desktop. The only thing that shows on the desktop are two Tools drives.

This is driving us crazy!

Rob,

I'm not in the office myself today but if it's still not working with the 5.5 manager your best bet is to call in to our support line at 978-562-7022 and one of the other support guys should be able to help you out.

So we found the culprit for this.

Our client machine is a macpro 2006 model. There is a conflict with the software because it's not a native 64 bit machine.

Everything ran smooth in Snow leopard but Lion is creating a problem.

Having the same problems almost exactly as you describe, except on a 2007 model (MacPro2,1) which apparently isn't a native 64bit machine either....?

Is there a solution to this?

What was the resolution to your issue?

We are having the same issue on a new iMac running MC v6 through a Atto Thunderbolt to Fiber adapter (supported).

Double tool volumes. Will not mount multi-writes to the desktop. TB Manager reports they are mounted. All sorts of flakey stuff.

We attempted to solve by trashing mount info on the server, client, delete users and etc. Server reboots, etc.

We have always found the management of multi-user write volumes to be challenging and problematic. Among other things. We have had similar issues on other machines and in many cases administering volumes and users require a server reboot. Not a pretty picture in a big shop.

Chris,

We do support the ATTO thunderlink adapters but there is an NVRAM tweak that needs to be done.

I'm going to follow up with an e-mail to you on how to apply that.

The solution is to run as an ethernet client.

Wish we had a better answer.

Robert,

The fix is a new manager. If you e-mail me I can get it to you Monday. You need to be running Terrablock 5.6 to use the new manager.

Thanks
Matt
