Avid project very slow to respond

Running multiple Avids connected to a Terrablock. Software has been upgraded.

Creating bins, opening bins, closing bins, moving bins; within the Avid project is extremely slow. Is there something to be done to speed up this annoyance?

Scott,

What version of Avid Media Composer are you running.

If the search index is running and building the index on the multi write volumes it will bog the system down. In MC 6.5 it allows you to set the location of the. Set it locally or disable the index and see if that improves the performance.

We are on version 6 and I have disabled Phrase find on all systems already.

What type of media are you working with? DNX? AMA?

Could you send us a copy of the system event log from the Terrablock.

We're having the same issue here. 4 Avids connected to the Terrablock. Getting beach balls every time we try to create bins, open folders, rename sequences/bins/folders. Playback can be choppy, making it very difficult to cut to music.

Media is all DNX 175x, 115 or 36. We're running Media Composer 6.5

Was Scott Davis' issue resolved? If so, how?

This is getting really frustrating for all the editors working on this project.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

It was relieved to some degree by setting indexing to the local drive for each system. Facilis told me that indexing to the Terrablock slowed things down; which makes a lot of sense. It was never totally relieved but; we also had some other variables like possible poor ethernet connections.

Olaf,

You should start by setting the avid search indexes local on every machine.

see the tech note at the link below for instructions.

Thanks so much for the quick responses.
I've changed the indexing settings, and already the Avids seem more responsive.
I'll see how things go for the rest of the day, and I'll report back if the issue is not resolved.

Olaf, it also helped to delete the search indexes out of the project file on the Terrablock. In our case, they were enormous and greatly contributed to project bloat.

Thanks for all your help guys. Our systems have been running far better now that the avid search indexes have been set to local.
