Default transition duration

This may be a stupid question but how do I change the default transition (Dissolve) from 1 second to 20 frames? It looks like 1:00 is shortest length in preferences.

Thanks.

Enter .67 as the duration.

That would be for a 30fps project to get a 20 frame duration. It's not listed in frames because 20 frames for a 30 fps project wouldn't be the same duration as 20 frames for a 24p or 60p project. So it's in seconds.

Thanks Bret! That really is terrible! There should be frame durations instead of seconds. I've been editing for 25 years and never saw where I would have to set a duration preference at 67.

It's actually smart.

When you say you want a 15 frame dissolve, what do you really mean? You mean a half a second. So if 15 frames were the default, you'd get different length dissolves in all your different frame rate projects. You'd get 1/4 sec in a 60p, 1/2 sec in a 30p, and 62/100 a sec in 24p.

They should have named presets.
Example, Bruckheimer, Malick, and the ever so popular Lucas ;)

Actually even FCP 7 allowed you to choose the exact frame rate for an effect. That worked fine.

Bret do you think you can answer this question. You seem to be the only one on this forum.

I'm doing a multicam project. All along on the first 7 projects, I've been able to to cut to a camera angle then if needed, watch all of the angles in the viewer and just drag the cut point a few frames to make sure I don't see a bump of the camera. I'm working on the next project and for some reason when I try to drag a few frames one way or the other, I lose sight of the 3 camera angles, so I can't get a precise edit. If I go back to a previous project it all works fine.

Nothing has changed. Did I inadvertently click on something? This is very weird. Not helpful for a 90 minute video with many cuts.

I saw that post and I don't know the answer right off the bat. And I don't have a multi-cam project recently to test. Can you post a screen recording or grab? Might help. I'm assuming you have the angle viewer open and all that.
