How to make silent film text cards in FCP X?
on Jul 31, 2019 at 12:26:56 am

I have some clips I want to look like silent film in FCP X. I know how to reduce saturation and add noise to make the action clips look like silent film.....but I want some text cards too. I'd love to put in a border and get a good font to make it look like silent film. Any advice for how to do that?

Do you mean subtitles?
A few good options for that but if you want it to look authentic, you need to create that.

Here's a template and fonts I used for a feature film Documentary I cut in FCPX recently.

Adding some "posterize motion" stutter to the video will help sell a period look, as will adding a heavier than normal vignette effect and the "film damage" effect, adjusted to taste to add some gate weave and dust/scratches.
