Import Media only Mono Audio using Facetime
on Mar 1, 2019 at 5:09:42 pm

Hi All,

I can't seem to record audio in stereo when Importing Media (recording video) through Facetime with USB Audio Codec on a Mac. FCP X 10.4.5 Mojave 10.14.1
This is the only place I can not accomplish a stereo recording.
After recording, I checked the audio configuration and it shows it as a mono file, no option for stereo.

What I have done.
Checked the Audio/Midi utility - made sure the USB CODEC is stereo.
Set the input in USB Audio CODEC in Sound Preferences.

Some other places this setup does record in stereo.
Audacity
Quicktime capture
All other audio software capturing.
And when I Record Voiceover in FCPX. Now, this is the interesting part...

In Record Voiceover, under Advanced, if I pull down input setting to 'System Setting USB Audio CODEC' it records in mono...If I pull down to USB Audio CODEC I have the options of Mono 1 Mono 2 and Stereo 1&2 -- Selecting Stereo 1&2 does in fact record in stereo ☺ .

This leads me to believe that something is overriding the master System Setting and that is what is applied to the import media capture.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
- Peter

P.S. I've also checked and unchecked 'Separate mono and group stereo' to no avail.
