Enlarging Audio Track

I used FCP 15 years ago, you could then blow up the audio track so large you could see each wave top and bottom clearly. But the latest v doesn't allow me to blow it up that far, or more likely, I just can't figure out how to blow it up. I have a tiny clink I need to remove but I can't zero in on it at max zoom. How do I blow the soundtrack up as big as I can?

Select the audio clip and hit Command and + key
Is that what you mean?

No. That allows you to enlarge the sound track by a fraction of what it used to. The current max enlargement is useless in extremely precise editing, like removing a single pop or rustle.

There are external programs that allow for blowing up that's useful, but those used to be available within FCP. Looks like another upgrade, that ...isn't.

So you want it enlarged more than this?

Looks like View>Zoom to Sample will have to do. Old FCP used a Plug-in that came with it that allowed you to move in to key frame and manipulate the wave on a tiny scale. I trying to remove a 'clink' against my mic on an otherwise perfect clip.

Thanks,
Ray

[Ray Bright] "Looks like View>Zoom to Sample will have to do."

I don't know about "have to do" it actually does exactly what you need

[Ray Bright] "Old FCP used a Plug-in that came with it that allowed you to move in to key frame and manipulate the wave on a tiny scale."

and "new" FCPX does the same thing without having to get a plug-in ☺

Easily done with "zoom to sample" you can keyframe at sample level easily.

FCPX can do that, as Steve demonstrated. Another feature...that is.

This Ripple Training tutorial shows how to navigate by 1/80th of a frame, and do sample-accurate audio editing in FCPX. However it must be a connected audio clip or compound clip that contains only audio.

Also the menu option View > Zoom to Samples must be enabled.
