FCP X Titles exporting as one letter instead of full word
on Apr 19, 2018 at 3:10:13 am

Hey there,

I am having a recurring glitch in FCP X 10.4

I edit using a lot of titles. Since upgrading to 10.4, a glitch keeps happening where some of my titles are changing from the full written word to just the first letter of the word in the exported video.

I have run some tests and instances when this occurs include:

- Occasionally when I cut a title generator using the blade

- When exporting the project, the exported version renders only a single letter of the title

I have tried not cutting any titles throughout a whole project, instead just dragging them to the required length. This did not seem to help.

This glitch doesn't happen with all titles, only occasionally. It's becoming very frustrating because even after going through and checking all titles in my project are correct, FCP can't seem to export them all correctly.

I am using 'Basic Title' under the FCP Titles menu.

Does anyone know why this issue would be occurring or how I can prevent it?

Here's an example of how it looks. As you can see, in the timeline the title still shows the full correct word 'LOOKS', but in the viewer only displays 'L'.

Thanks heaps!

Does it happen with other title templates? I would test that to see if somehow the Basic Title template got corrupted somehow.

I thought you said it only looked wrong on export? Here it’s clearly wrong in FCPX. And what’s written in the timeline really has no bearing to what’s in the viewer. You sure that font works with lowercase?

My guess is you have a "build" behavior or a "fade in" type behavior set in the Inspector that is time dependent, and slicing the graphic to shorten it makes the reveal timing clash with the new duration. I'd like to see a big blow-up closeup of the inspector setting for the titles in question to confirm the hypothesis.

I'm using Tumble 3D in FCPX and it's exporting as one letter also. But I used the same title in three places within my project. It's been a single letter in just the first instance after exporting.

I made the title then exported the short one minute clip to use during the next 18 shows. Once my show is edited I open the title project where I save the Tumble 3D title and copied it. I re-opened the show and pasted the title where I wanted it. Then I made the changes in the title and copied it to the second place in the show then again at the end of the show.I went back to the first title in the show and checked it. It was correct. Then I check the other two instances within the show and again they were correct. I went back once again to the front of the show and check it for a third time. All was well. So I exported the show.

Once exported I checked the external HDD where I sent the show and found the the first instance of the title was rendered with only the first letter. I checked the other two instances and they were fine.
I've seen this happen with some lower thirds in a different style also. Makes no sense!
