Recovering a corrupted GH4 SD card

Not strictly FCPX related but couldn't see another suitable forum at Cow, and I'm sure many of you here will have had this prob at some point.
You're also such helpful and knowledgeable folk (well, most of you!)
A GH4 card with some valuable footage has been accidentally formatted in-camera by a total idiot (me!)
I've used 'MediaRecover' on Mac and fished out a load of movs, jpgs and other files (it's a 128Gb card), but absolutely none of the mov files will play (tho they look like decent sizes etc).
Any suggestions of other media recovery software that works, or software to rebuild/investigate a corrupted mov file?

Will they not work even in VLC? That's a common "can-opener" for media files.

A more arcane but powerful one is FFMPEG.

Have you tried taking one of the .mov files and re-naming it or it's file extension?

You could try this:

http://aeroquartet.com/movierepair/download

It's not a free service, but it's free to use to see if anything is recoverable. If it is, you send your files to them, they fix it and send it back.

I’ve always had great success with Data Rescue over the years.

After using 'Media Recover' I saved the found files, and then tried Disk Drill (with less success) and tried Data Rescue - which looked like it was working well but produced files that were kbs in size rather than tens or hundreds of MBs as expected.

VLC won't play, and i did try renaming files and also changing.mov to .mp4 and back.

I haven't looked at FFMPEG in years but i remember it used to be all command-line and I thought VLC was basically the front end for it.

Very frustratingly (but thanks for the pointer) I downloaded the aeroquartet 'Treasured' app, and YES, i can see my missing footage as previews so it does seem to be recoverable. Unfortunately the fees to save the files are a bit steep for this particular project, so I don't want to go down that route.

The frustration is, of course, that I now know the files ARE recoverable, but haven't got the software needed to do it myself. AARGH :(

So is your problem recovering the files or just playing them and getting them into a codec you can import and edit?

Some years back through some digital bumble f*ck of my own, I formatted a card that had crucial files on it . I managed a recovery with Rescue pro, VLC could play the files but they weren't in any form the FCPX could import. I used Imagine products Proxymill now called primetime transcoder to process the files into pro res 1080 HD and that saved the day.

Well, I've got files that are marked as .movs, and the Treasured app from above-mentioned aeroquartet shows that they will be fixable, but i can't justify the budget to upload to them. VLC won't play them. i strongly suspect if i was adept at FFMPEG i could rescue them that way, but i can't work out the technique and probably haven't enough time to learn it all.

Looks like I can try a demo of Primetime, so will see if that helps.
