FS7 XAVC Import

Cow,

I suspect this has been covered before but I still can't figure this out.

Very large project (10TB) shot almost entirely on the FS7. The camera cards were copied by the DIT to folders named "Card One", Card Two, etc. The "Card" folder had the XDROOT folder inside of it.

When I set up a brand new library, and import the top level folder "Card One" the files are imported but files are TRANSCODED inside the library as XAVC-Intra. They are NOT "left in place" despite that being chosen upon import.

IS this how its supposed to work? Obviously, this is challenge when dealing with 10TB of footage, leaving me with 20 TB of footage after import.

If I understand it correctly, this is the default behavior when you "peek" and choose clips from within the XDROOT folder, but I'm selecting the top level folder and it is still transcoding.

All the latest pro video apps and FCPX running on Sierra. Thanks for any insight.

David

Bypass the import window and drag and drop the MXF files in to the Library.

Yes that works, it's always seemed like a bit of a workaround though. The "Leave in place" option should work but it doesn't

You can “hack” FCPX and remove the Sony import plugin if you’d like, that allows “leave in place” importing of MXF files.

We work with Sony MXF a lot. Never had any issues with drag and drop.

I never use the import window for anything unless it forces me to.

Thanks Jeremy, I work with FS7 footage a lot, I occasionally use the drag and drop method but If you've been happy with it then I'll abandon the import window for it.

We have loads of footage from F55 and we now are seeing some fs7 footage too.

Drag and drop works perfectly. XAVC is “blessed” by Apple so there should be little penalty using the MXF media.

Also, you can always optimIze the MXF to .mov if you ever need it.
